Movie Night - Osama

The Middle East & North Africa Law Society will show the film Osama from 7-9 pm on Thursday, February 25, 2010. Osama is Afghanistan's first film since the rise and fall of the Taliban. The movie tells the story of a young girl who is forced to disguise herself as a boy so she can try to help her mother and grandmother survive by working for the family. The movie portrays the regime's cruelty toward women—who were not allowed to go outside without a male escort and were forced to wear floor-length veiled dresses called burkas.

Mission Statement

MENA serves to promote a better understanding of the Middle East and North Africa, as well as to establish a network of legal professionals with ties to the region. MENA provides a valuable forum in which members can freely interact with one another and present issues to our community. While we do host a wide-variety of cultural events, we identify primarily as a professional organization. This means that membership is open to anyone, regardless of ancestry, who has an interest in the Middle East or North Africa. We look forward to annual events and welcome recommendations for new programs and activities. We strive to collaborate with our student body and institutions devoted to the Middle East and North Africa from around the world.
